Former Kanab High Thrower To Compete for UVU At NCAA Regionals

first_img FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailSACRAMENTO, Calif.-Among the five Utah Valley University athletes to qualify for the NCAA Track & Field West regionals later this week at Sacramento State University, is a former Kanab High star.Senior Daven Russell will be competing in the shot put, an event he won the WAC Championship in May 9-11 at Lawrence, Kan.Russell is the 41st ranked shot putter in the West region (consisting of all Division I schools in the West) and his best toss represents a UVU school record, 58.56 feet.Russell was also named as the WAC’s Outstanding Field Performer for this past season. He will compete in the West regionals Saturday at roughly 5:30 pm MDT.The regionals will run from Thursday-Saturday.Other competitors for the Wolverines to compete at the regionals include senior sprinter Alena Gillespie of Highland, Utah, sophomore distance runner Adrian Jones of Meridian, Idaho, junior sprinter Jordan Carder of Gilbert, Ariz., and multi-talented sophomore Albert MacArthur of Port Orchard, Wash.
